Digital Smile Design is a treatment planning protocol that allows for careful analysis of the patient’s facial and dental structures through state-of-the-art videography and digital technology. The obtained images are analyzed, which allows to determine the reference lines within the face. In the meantime, an interview with the patient is conducted, which allows us to learn about his or her personality and physiognomic features. All the information obtained is transferred to intraoral images in order to design the best possible result. Today, the DSD Concept is considered the most modern, patient-centered design approach available.

Digital smile design in our clinic in Poznan is a fairly quick process. The first consultation lasts about 60 minutes and during this time a thorough analysis of aesthetic diagnostics is carried out. It includes the examination of the patient’s face (macro-aesthetics), the outer region of the mouth (mini-aesthetics) and the teeth and oral cavity (micro-aesthetics). As a result, we can determine the relationships between the mouth, teeth and smile and your features and facial expressions. The next step is to perform a tooth scan, which is necessary for the digital assessment and to plan the appropriate treatment process. Then, photographs of the lips and face are taken and a short video is recorded, which will effectively show the patient’s facial expressions. In some cases, additional examinations like X-ray or computed tomography, are also used. On the basis of all this information, we move on to creating a digital project – a visualization that will be fully presented and discussed at the end of the visit. The last element is to determine the entire process of conducting the DSD along with the presentation of the cost estimate and terms of cooperation.
