The whitening procedure consists of applying an appropriate gel to the teeth, which is then activated by the light of the BEYOND™ lamp. The composition of the gel is based on hydrogen peroxide and ingredients that increase the results of the treatment and reduce tooth sensitivity.
The light emitted by the BEYOND™ lamp increases the rate at which the whitening gel passes through the enamel to the dentin and activates the oxidation process in the centre of the teeth. 2. Why is the BEYOND™ method better than teeth whitening at home?
There are many ways to whiten your teeth. Some of the cheapest methods can be extremely dangerous for the enamel (e.g. baking soda, salt, charcoal or lemon). Teeth whitening using the BEYOND™ lamp takes place in our dental clinic under the full supervision of a trained clinician. Before the start of the procedure, the dentist assesses the condition of the enamel and protects any tooth defects. The whole procedure takes about 60 minutes and consists of applying the BEYOND whitening gel three times and irradiating it with a special lamp – the BEYOND™™ accelerator. After one visit only, the patient can see the results.
3. Are there any contradictions against teeth whitening?
The treatment is suitable for most people. Those who should not undergo whitening treatment include people with significantly damaged enamel, people who need endless endodontic treatments, people with fluorosis greater than 1 degree or periodontal diseases, bleeding gums, hypoplasia. Also, pregnant and lactating women, as well as those under 18 years of age. The patient does not have to have all teeth treated before the whitening procedure – cavities, exposed tooth necks, leaky fillings or enamel abrasion are protected with a rubber dam. For patients who have undergone treatment with orthodontic braces, it is advised to wait 6 weeks after removing them.
4. Can a person with diabetes undergo teeth whitening?
People with diabetes have a higher risk of gum disease due to low levels of glucose control in their blood. It is recommended that any patient who suffers from diabetes have a comprehensive oral examination before any treatment, so that the full health of the gums can be determined.
5. How to maintain white teeth after the treatment?
The most important is to follow a mandatory “white diet” for 7 days after the treatment. This means, you are only allowed to eat non-staining foods and drinks. It is very simple: think of everything that can stain a white shirt – it should be completely eliminated from our diet for the next 7 days. During this time, you should also avoid smoking cigarettes. In addition, to maintain the effect, for daily teeth brushing, we recommend using the BEYOND™ PearlWhite® gentle whitening toothpaste, which perfectly removes any new discolorations.
6. Does teeth whitening hurt?
The procedure itself is completely painless. Some people may develop slight teeth sensitivity after treatment, but this is rare. But these symptoms will only last up to 24 hours.
7. Will the BEYOND™ lamp treatment whiten dark fillings in my teeth?
Unfortunately, neither BEYOND™ nor any other whitening method available currently on the market can change the colour of discoloured crowns or darker fillings. In this case, it is best to replace them with new, lighter ones.
8. I am 9 weeks pregnant, can I whiten my teeth using the BEYOND™ lamp?
There has been currently no studies regarding teeth whitening in pregnant and lactating women. Therefore, it is recommended not to undergo the treatment if you are pregnant, or to postpone it until you stop feeding the baby with mother’s milk.
